Feedback from the judges: One of the more interesting condominium towers to grace the Toronto skyline is located in Etobicoke – namely Thirty Six Zorra – providing a point of interest for drivers along the Gardiner Expressway heading into and out of downtown Toronto.

The elegant tower floor plan is an alternating series of zig-zag floor plates, which gives the building a notable sculptural presence. The glass balconies offer residents unobstructed views in all directions and increased daylighting into the units. The tower is anchored by a simple, yet effective, six-storey podium, which balances solidity and transparency, thereby succeeding as a counterbalance in the composition.

The integration of both indoor and outdoor amenity spaces into the overall building design provides residents with thoughtful private and shared spaces, further enhancing the experience of belonging to this small community.

The real success of this predominantly glass building is the effective employment of simple and repetitive geometries to create a memorable series of facades which, together with a semi-solid podium base, make for an overall welcome addition to the residential skyline in Etobicoke.
